Darie Schotte is a Belgian artist who is specialised in ceramical, figurative sculpture.
As artmaster she attended courses first in sculpture then in ceramics.
She is familiar with different textile-and batik applications, nevertheless ceramics and
painting have always had her major attention.

Many worldwide travelling, frequent contacts with various cultures and religions,
the interest for philosophy and astrology, the fascination for the human being, nature, and
the everlasting guiding love in and for life linked with her own experiences are constant
sources of inspiration for her creative work

"The possibilities offered by ceramic art are so numerous, that many people are
appealed by this artform. My work is parallel with the different periods I experienced
in my life. During the creative process, while an object gets a defined shape, I mentally
already create the next one."

Most of the sculptures are developped by a mix of colombage and estampage techniques
Pieces below show this techniques

There are many stages towards the final result :

The building up of a piece, then letting it dry in an ideal, natural atmosphere.
Next, depending on the clayquality, a first raw bake in the oven.

At last depending on the variety of used glazes which have different baking temperatures,
the piece goes several times into the oven, starting with the highest and ending with the lowest
baking temperature. More colouring supposes more bakingwork.

Some works are flat pieces made to be fixed on a support which can be of wood, stone
or concrete. The embossed forms are then used and ordered into expressive, harmonious
ensembles which respond to the creator's perception of the final view.

When you're studying the above and further shown panels in this site you will discover the
great need for harmony, symmetry, and perfection. Almost every piece has a center around
which everything is organized, thus giving a specific impulse to the work.
Very often one discovers a face, surrounded by bodyparts: a heartshape, crowned heads or
such attributes.
The components are spherical, fan- and wingshaped. Square, rectangles, or cubical forms
are rarer. The raw baked clay is the basic colour, which enables the vivid colours an own life.
Pink and violet, soft glazes for faces , a lot of blue and red colouring and earthy shades are used,
while precious, liquid gold emphasizes headornaments and other distinctive items.
Details which give the work a stronger, richer and mysterious emanation.
